Palo Alto Firewall Maintenance
Thursday morning, November 20, beginning at 3 AM, ITS will be installing Palo Alto firewalls in front of the Residence Halls, Jardine, and KSU Housing wireless networks. Given the time of day, there should be minimal impact on residents. ITS expects the maintenance to last no longer than one hour, with disruptions held to 5 - 10 minutes.

University Computing Labs and Hale Library InfoCommons Maintenance
The University Computing labs and Hale Library InfoCommons servers will be restarted at 7am on Friday October 24. The process is expected to take about 15 minutes. No outages are expected during this time, but users at the computers may notice a brief pause in their session as the servers fail over.

Customer Impact: Affected customers are unable to search their Inbox folders within Outlook Web App (OWA) when the Inbox is not set to conversation view.
Workaround: As a workaround, customers may be able to set the Inbox to conversation view before initiating a search.

The security team will be upgrading several firewalls across campus Friday October 10, 2014 between 9 PM and 10:30 PM, to address several vulnerabilities recently disclosed. Those firewalls which will be upgraded are: KDA, VPN, PCI, Olathe, Athletics, Police
The KDA, VPN, PCI, and Olathe installations currently have HA pairs, so no disruption of service is anticipated with those upgrades. Athletics and Police are not currently in HA pairs, so will notice approximately a 5 minute service disruption as the firewall is rebooted to load the new software.
In addition, several of these firewalls offer VPN services, and the AnyConnect client on them will also be updated. As a result, clients using VPN services from one of these firewalls will notice their AnyConnect client being upgraded the next time they start a session. Microsoft is currently working on a fix for users experiencing issues with clicking links in the Office Web App. When the link is clicked nothing happens. As a workaround, affected users can right-click the URL and open it in a new tab or window. Additionally, if the message is opened into a separate window, clicking on the URL will work as expected.

Data Center Maintenance 8/14

History:
On August 14th the Network and Telecommunications team will be performing maintenance in the Data Center. From 6 to 9pm, we will be turning off the DC side of the devices that are powered by both AC and DC power supplies, in order to work on the DC power bank. The AC power supplies are sized to run the equipment without the second power supply. We will also be moving KanRen's Cienna and the phone system to battery backup during this time. We do not anticipate any network or phone outage during the maintenance.
The second phase of maintenance will be 9pm - midnight. We will be adding 10Gb modules to the Nexus 5548 switches. The switches will need to be powered down to insert the module. However, only one switch will be down at time. The second switch will remain active, to continue processing traffic. So we do not anticipate a network outage, during this maintenance.

Around 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, the Office of Student Financial Assistance finished recreating the remaining financial aid transactions and opened financial aid self-service for student access. Student bills for the month of July were accessible in iSIS Wednesday, July 23, and reflect the most current financial aid awards.
Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to verify their information in iSIS, especially if you made a change in the system between Thursday, July 10, and Tuesday, July 15. These Web pages offer suggestions on what to do:

Recently, vulnerabilities in the Cisco ASA products were disclosed, and Cisco has released an update to mitigate the issues. Tonight, beginning at 9 PM, we will be upgrading software on several sets of ASAs. Most of what we are upgrading run in HA pairs, so disruptions will be minimal in most cases 10-15 seconds), as the failover peer will handle traffic while the other unit is being upgraded. The list of firewalls that need to be upgraded are:

Olathe

BRI
Athletics
KDA
Some of the ASAs listed will be upgraded earlier or at specific times during the maintenance window to minimize business impact.

The server has been rebooted and the issue is resolved.

We are currently experiencing issues with the file server for the UCL/Infocommons Provisioning Server. We plan to reboot all servers beginning at 3:15pm to resolve the issue. During this time all users using a UCL or Infocommons computer will see their sessions hang up and be unrecoverable. We expect service to be restored around 3:30pm.

Next steps and potential avenues for mitigating end-user impact are being explored at this time. Customer Impact: Affected customers may be unable to send and receive messages being sent through Exchange Online Protection. This will affect inbound messages from external senders as well as sending to external recipients. Additionally, customers running in a hybrid scenario with on-premise mailboxes and those in the Office 365 cloud may see mail delays.

Tonight, beginning at 9PM, we will be performing a firmware and signature update on the Procera packet filter in order address some issues with the statistics modules. The update will require that the device be rebooted and Internet connectivity will be interrupted for a period of about 1 minute while it’s coming back online. If you have any questions or concerns, or notice any problems with Internet connectivity after the update, please send email to security@ksu.edu.

Intermittent Network Outages in Hale Library
Beginning June 9 and
continuing for approximately 2 weeks, patrons should expect intermittent
network outages on the first and second floors of Hale Library as
network connections are being upgraded. These outages are expected to
last less than a minute, however
they could cause computers to hang and unsaved data to be lost. Patrons
are encouraged to save data to a USB flash drive regularly.

Network and Telecommunication Services and IT Security will be performing maintenance on Wednesday, May 28th from 9pm - midnight on the data center 6509 routers and firewalls. This maintenance is to complete the upgrade of the data center software, that was started over Spring Break. Service disruptions to the data center resources are anticipated at various points in the upgrade, while the devices fail over to the standby units and are rebooted to the new code. The Hale border router and Hale border firewall will be powered down and moved to an adjacent rack in the frame room, and then powered back on. These devices are the standby units for our KanRen peering to the internet. Power Plant is our active peering point. So no network service disruption is anticipated during this maintenance. This work has been completed and Hale Library is open.

Hale Library will be closed due to work associated with foundation construction beginning at 6pm on Friday, May 30th. The building will re-open at 8am Monday, June 2. During this time, staff also will be unable to enter Hale Library. The Data Center will be running on generator power and we anticipate no downtime.
NOTE: There will be an increase in noise level from the generator, outside of Hale during this time. The IT Help Desk
will be available from a remote site, please call 785-532-7722. For the Operations Center, please call 785-532-0002.
