Manhattan Campus Partial Electric Outage

The power in Leasure Hall and Burt Hall has been restored using fully operational generator power. The Division of Facilities is working to permanently repair a break in the power lines to those buildings. Classes and work in those buildings have returned to a normal schedule.

12/2/15 Leasure and Burt Halls are currently without power. If you have questions regarding classes, please contact your professor or instructor. The remainder of campus is open and all other classes will be in session unless notified by the instructor.

Umberger & Call Hall Closed 11/30/15

Power has been restored to Call, Umberger, and Dykstra Halls. Classes and operations have returned to normal.

History:
Due to a power outage, Umberger Hall and Call Hall are officially closed for the day. Facilities has determined that there is an underground electrical break affecting the power outage for Umberger Hall, Call Hall and Dystra Hall. Facilities will be working as long as necessary to locate/repair the break. Updates will be posted here as soon as they are available.

Network Maintenance - Wireless for Main Campus - Friday 11/27

The maintenance has been completed.

History:
NTS will be performing wireless maintenance on Friday November 27, 2015 from 9:00 p.m. till 10:00 p.m. We will be doing a firmware upgrade to the Campus Aruba controllers for feature enhancements. This process will cause periodic disruptions to service through the maintenance period as access points roll from controller to controller. All wireless service by Aruba products will be affected by this maintenance.

This maintenace has been completed, PaperCut is working with Cat Cash.

The PaperCut server upgrade worked as expected and has been completed. The Union currently has CBord offline for an upgrade this morning. CBord is expected to be back online by noon.

Monday, November 23 2015, 10:38 a.m.
During the PaperCut server upgrade, the connection to Cbord was broken. IT staff are working with vendor support staff to resolve the issue.

Friday 11/20/15 2:30 p.m.
We will be performing a PaperCut upgrade on Monday, November 23rd, beginning at 8am. During this time PaperCut will be unavailable for printing. The upgrade will take about an hour.

Water Plant upgrade - Nov. 21 thru Nov. 29

The Data Center cooling will be provided by the backup water chillers Nov. 21 through Nov. 29. This is due to the 30" automatic valve installation, part of an ongoing upgrade to the chilled water plant.

Facilities will be turning on the backup system this evening so the NOC may notice some temperature changes tonight and Saturday.

Undergraduate Admissions Issue

The Admissions issue has been resolved.

History:
The IDM team had an issue with one of the searching algorithms that is part of the eID creation process. They currently have a workaround in place so users can continue to register for eIDs.


The IT Help Desk has received a number of calls about users receiving an error message when applying as undergraduates. The error is "This eProfile has encountered a system error. Please sign out and try again." ITS staff are aware of the issue and are working to resolve it.

Network Maintenance - Ackert/Chalmers complex -10/29/15

This maintenance has been completed.

History:
NTS will be performing network maintenance in the Ackert/Chalmers complex on Thursday, Oct. 29th, from 10:00pm to 11:00pm.  The purpose of the maintenance is to upgrade the connectivity from the building to the core, and to several research labs.  A short building-wide outage will occur during this window, affecting all wired and wireless connectivity to the building.

Wireless authentication certificate

iOS devices are requiring the user to explicitly select KSU Wireless or KSU Housing before launching into the connection process. The user will be notified that the certificate is not trusted. In order to continue the process, the user must select the Trust button.

It is not best practice to accept what appears to be an untrusted certificate. However, that is the only workaround at this time. This is a known issue with iOS.

Mediasite in K-State Online Issues

This issue has been resolved.

History:
Wednesday, 10/7/15 at 1:48pm
Our video content provider, Mediasite, is experiencing an issue that is causing the K-State Online Canvas to Mediasite integration to produce “500 - Internal server error” messages. Mediasite is aware of this issue and is working to resolve it.

Instead, access Mediasite via https://kansasstate.mediasite.com/mediasite/mymediasite. This avoids the current issue. Instructors can upload and manage video content via this URL. Student playback of embedded videos in K-State Online is not effected by this issue.

K-State ITS personnel are working with Mediasite to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.

Fortinet Firewall Installation Maintenance - Tues 9/29

This maintenance has been completed.

History:
At 3am Tuesday September 29, Security will be installing a Fortinet Next Generation Firewall in-between West Hall and the Core. This will cause a disruption of service for Residents for brief period as fiber connections are changed around. Security will monitor the environment after the change for any issues. In the event of issues, service will be restored to the original configuration no later than 6am.

Trend Security for Mac Upgrade Maintenance - Mon 9/28

This maintenance has been completed.

History:
Starting at 4:00pm today (Monday, 9/28) ITS will be updating the Trend Security for Macintosh servers to have the new Mac Antivirus Client Agent. Trend has given ITS early access to get the client.

After a manual update on the server is done the new client will be automatically pushed to Macs that have Trend Security for Mac installed. Users will not have to update their software manually.

ITS Staff will upgrade the the Antivirus.ksu.edu website after the servers have received the updated clients. The new version should be on the server September 30th.

Zoom Services Down

This issue has been resolved.

History:
Monday, 9/28/15 at 3:15pm
Users are reporting that they are having issues connecting to Zoom. Zoom services has reported that the Zoom web site is not reachable and are currently investigating the issue.

This will affect joining and starting meetings as well as access to the Zoom web site. Zoom's engineering team is looking in to this issue and will provide updates as they become available.

History:
On Tuesday, September 22nd between 10pm - 11pm, ITS will perform configuration changes to the Data Center firewall that are geared toward improving performance. The changes should take approximately 10 minutes. There is no anticipation of a service outage during this maintenance window.

Webmail Issues

Some K-State email accounts were disabled over the weekend due to a syncing error. The accounts that were inadvertently disabled lost access to email preventing some K-Staters from accessing their email accounts via webmail, mobile devices and other email clients. While the accounts were disabled those impacted were not able to receive new email messages. Anyone sending email to a disabled email account would have received a bounce back error message from Microsoft. Any email sent to K-Staters that were impacted by this issue will need to be resent. Information Technology Services expects all accounts to be returned to normal by this evening. We apologize for the error.

History:
K-Stater's are continuing to report email access issues including the "mail is undeliverable" message. ITS staff have identified the email issue and are continuing to work on the resolution. ITS apologizes for the inconvenience and greatly appreciates your patience.

Microsoft Office 365 application tiles

The application tile issue in Microsoft Office 365 has been resolved.

Microsoft is having issues with their application tiles in Office365. As a result these tiles maybe missing from the portal. You should still be able to access these options directly, they are just not appearing appropriately in the apps tile section.

PaperCut Print Manager Maintenance - 09/01/15

This maintenance has been completed.

History:
Monday, August 31st, 2015 at 2:53pm
ITS will be changing the driver that the Hale Library and University Computing Labs use in order to address some issues with printing PDF and PowerPoint files. This will require a change to both the server and client side which will require all computers to be rebooted. We will be beginning this maintenance at 5:30am tomorrow. During this time printing will be unavailable in Hale Library and the University Computing Labs. Computers will gradually become able to print again once maintenance has been completed and the computer has been rebooted. Printing in HDS and CBA will not be affected. We plan to have the maintenance completed and all computers rebooted by 7:30am.

Procera appliance maintenance - 8/31/15

The maintenance has been completed.

History:
Tonight between 10:00PM and 10:30PM, we will be performing an update on the Procera appliance to the latest firmware version, as well as updating application signatures. This maintenance will result in a few brief disruptions to Internet traffic (15 seconds or so).

Website Maintenance 08/31/15 thru 09/04/15

History:
K-State IT will be completing website maintenance throughout the week to migrate to new web servers. Thereshould be no noticeable downtime.

Exchange Server Connection Issues

History:
Users may continue to experience intermittent email login issues.  ITS is continuing to work with Microsoft engineers to resolve the issue.  Users can use webmail.ksu.edu to access email.

Users may still be experiencing issues with connecting to the exchange server via email clients. ITS is working with Microsoft engineers to solve the issue. Please use webmail.ksu.edu as an alternative method to accessing email.

Microsoft updated their authentication infrastructure and it is causing intermittent login issues with email clients. Users can use Webmail. ITS staff are working with Microsoft engineers to resolve the issue.

Users have reported intermittent issues being able to login to email clients authenticating to Office365 services. Webmail.ksu.edu appears to still be functional, so if you are having issues connecting via a email client or phone client please use the web to access email.  ITS staff is working with Microsoft engineers to resolve the issue.

Users have reported intermittent issues of being unable to login to the Microsoft exchange server. Problems are occurring across all devices. ITS is aware of the issue and is working to resolve it.

PaperCut Maintenance - Thursday, August 27th, 7 a.m.

The maintenance has been completed and printing is working correctly.

History:
ITS will be performing maintenance for the PaperCut service on Thursday, August 27th at 7 a.m. This maintenance will last approximately five minutes. During the maintenance no new jobs will be accepted and users will not be able to release jobs. Jobs that are in the queue before the maintenance starts will not be lost.

This maintenance has been completed.

History:
We will be upgrading the software on several of the firewalls on campus Wednesday, August 12th, beginning at 10 p.m. The maintenance window will last until approximately 1 a.m. Thursday morning. Several are in HA pairs so service disruptions should not occur. We've indicated which firewalls are being upgraded below. In addition, we will be updating the AnyConnect VPN client to the latest release during the maintenance window.

Windows 10 and Trend Micro Compatibility Issues

This maintenance has been completed.

There is a chance that if a computer did not receive the first patch before the upgrade to version 11, they will not receive the new version 11 agent for Trend Micro. In this case the old version of Trend Micro will need to be uninstalled from the computer and the new Trend Micro 11 agent will need to be installed.

History:
Starting today ITS will be installing a patch to the current TrendMicro servers. This patch is needed to prepare for the larger upgrade to version 11 which adds support for Windows 10. We will leave TrendMicro at this patch level until Thursday of next week to ensure that it has time to propagate as broadly as possible. Next Thursday we will then upgrade the TrendMicro servers to version 11.

There is a chance that if a computer did not receive the first patch (that we are rolling out starting today) before the upgrade to version 11, they will not receive the new version 11 agent for TrendMicro. In this case the old version of TrendMicro will need to be uninstalled from the computer and the new TrendMicro 11 agent will need to be installed.

K-State's IT Help Desk has been receiving reports of the university's version of Trend Micro not functioning properly with Windows 10. Users who upgrade to Windows 10 will not be able to get the antivirus and therefore cannot connect to KSU Housing. It is advised for those who live on campus to wait until this issue has been resolved to upgrade to Windows 10.

Network Maintenance - 07/29/15

This maintenance has been completed. 

History:
NTS will be performing network maintenance on the Hale 7K, Wednesday July 29th from 12:01am - 3:00am.During this maintenance, users will experience periodic outages in both wired and wireless network services in multiple campus buildings, including the Residence Halls, Jardine Complex, Hale Library, Student Union, and the Olathe campus. While the maintenance will not directly impact the Data Center infrastructure, communications to and from the Data Center will see temporary disruptions as traffic is switched to the available links. Platinum migration to Catfiles - 7/10 thru 7/13

The migration has been completed.

History:
On July 13, 2015 ITS will be migrating all file storage from Platinum to a new server called Catfiles. The process of migration will begin at 8:00pm Friday, July 10. If possible please shut down your computer/s before you leave Friday evening. Any files that are left open may not be migrated over to the new server. We anticipate that the migration will take the weekend and will be complete by 6:00am Monday July 13.

Procera Maintenance - 7/8/15

This maintenance has been completed.

Adjustments are going to be made to the Procera to minimize the network disruption when applying signature updates each week. This maintenance will disrupt communication to/from the Internet for 10 seconds or so. The maintenance window will begin at 10 PM and should only last until 10:15 PM.

Network Maintenance - June 19 12:01am - 6:00am

This maintenance has been completed.

History:
NTS will be performing maintenance on the Hale router on June 19th, beginning at 12:01am through 6:00am. Both wired and wireless network connectivity will be affected in multiple campus buildings, including Hale Library, the Student Union, and the University Computing Labs. This maintenance will also affect the Olathe campus. Users can expect periodic loss of service throughout the maintenance period.

The Residence Halls and Jardine complex, Salina campus, and KDA will not be affected during the maintenance. While the maintenance will not affect Data Center equipment, campus and external access to the data center resources may be impacted.

Network Maintenance - 06/16/2015

The maintenance to the Kanren backbone has been completed, and service has been restored to the main campus, Salina and Olathe campuses.

History:
KanRen has completed the backbone maintenance.  However, there is an issue with the link to the Olathe campus.  Currently Olathe users have no access to main campus resources and the internet.  We are working with Cisco TAC to resolve this problem.




Kanren will be performing maintenance to backbone nodes on the K-State campus. The maintenance will be on Tuesday, June 16th, from 12:01am - 3:00am. We have redundant connections between the K-State border and Kanren, and only one link will be down at a time.  So main campus should not see an interruption in Internet service or access to internal resources and the Data Center during the maintenance.

The Salina and Olathe campuses, and the Lawrence DR are connected into the core infrastructure on the main campus, via Kanren connections.  Those locations will experience a loss in connectivity to main campus resources and the Internet during the maintenance.  While internal resources between the Manhattan KDA building and the Hale Data Center will not be affected,  Internet connectivity and remote office connectivity will be impacted during this maintenance.

Kansas State University experienced a power outage approximately at 6 a.m.

The following buildings were affected: Hale Library, Waters Hall, Chemistry/Bio Chemistry, Eisenhower Hall, Calvin Hall, Dickens Hall, Throckmorton Hall, Dole Hall, Cole Hall, Trotter Hall, Weber Hall, and Fairchild Hall.
Power is expected to be restored by 9 a.m.

Qualtrics Access Issues

The access issue has been resolved.

We are experiencing issues accessing Qualtrics. This includes those wanting to access their saved surveys and those that are wanting to take a survey. The job analysis questionnaire from Human Capital is in high-use right now and they are receiving many phone calls about this error. Qualtrics said this is a known issue and they are working to resolve it.

Computer Lab Maintenance - Thursday 6/4/15

The network maintenance has been completed.

History:
We will be performing network maintenance in the University Computing Labs and Hale Library InfoCommons tonight 6/4 beginning at 6pm.  No outages are expected, but there is a chance that computers could lock up.  Users are encouraged to save their work frequently to an external device.

ITS staff and Microsoft have been working on a solution for the Office 365 sign in issue.  Microsoft is in the process of rolling out a fix for this issue.  We expect the matter to be resolved by the end of the May.  In the interim when signing into Webmail the Microsoft Office 365 sign in page may appear.  Enter your user-id (eID)@ksu.edu and you will automatically be redirected to the K-State sign in page.  Clearing your internet browser's cache may resolve the issue.  Your patience is greatly appreciated.

Cox will be performing fiber maintenance on Wednesday, May 20th, from 2:00am - 5:00am. This work will affect connectivity between the Manhattan and Salina campuses. During the maintenance there will be a brief 'hard-down', in which Salina users will not be able to reach resources on the Manhattan campus or the Internet. InfoCommons Computer Intermittent Outages 4/28/15

On Tuesday April 28, beginning at 6am, ITS staff will be performing network maintenance in the University computing labs. During this time a brief outage of a minute or two will be experienced by anyone trying to use the computers in the lab and unsaved work may be lost.
