Electrical Outage 9/23

The electrical work has been completed.

History:
An electrical outage is scheduled for Sunday, September 23, from 2p.m. to 7p.m. for McCain Auditorium, Danforth Chapel, Nichols, Thompson, and Fairchild.

Network Maintenance - Athletics Complex 9/22

The maintenance has been completed.

History:
NTS will be performing network maintenance on the Athletics Complex wireless network on Saturday (9/22) from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM.  Intermittent wireless outages across the K-State Athletics complex are expected during this time.

Scantron

The main campus Scantron machine is working.

History:
The main campus Scantron machine located at the IT Help Desk is currently down.  A replacement has been ordered and already shipped. It should arrive Wednesday.

KEAS Password Change

Continuing to look in to the password issues.

 ITS is continuing to work on a resolution to the analog phones issues. Impacted service areas include Leadership Studies, International Student Center, Weber, Call, Pittman, Davenport, Stone House Daycare, Child Care Development, Coles, Trotter, Mosier, Edwards, Rec Complex, & Pat Roberts Hall. Information Technology Services continues to have issues with analog phones in the Vet Med complex and is in the process of working to resolve the issues. The resolution is ongoing and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Canvas (KSOL) degraded performance - 8/28

Telephone issues

The phone services appear to have been restored. If you notice any issues please contact the IT Help Desk at 785-532-7722. 

History: 
The phone system that services areas in Edwards including the KSU Police, Jardine and the Veterinary Medicine complex have been impacted by a water line break. Phone service will be spotty. Network and Telecommunications are working to resolve the issue.

Change Freeze Maintenance - 8/13 to 8/24

The maintenance has been completed

History:
ITS will observe a change freeze of ITS production services 12:01 a.m., Mon., Aug. 13 to 11:59 p.m., Fri., Aug. 24. The main goal of this change freeze is to protect critical K-State enterprise systems from changes that are potentially disruptive to beginning and end-of-semester activities. The change freeze does not include tasks related to the fulfillment of Telecom work orders, troubleshooting and resolving system issues, and completing critical projects related to the on-going recovery efforts from the Hale fire. In these cases, ITS will work with the impacted users to identify windows of time that would create the least amount of disruption to their workflow.

NTS will be performing network maintenance beginning Wednesday (8/15) 10pm, through Thursday (8/16) 4am.  The maintenance is part of the recovery efforts from the Hale fire.  On-campus users may experience up to 20 minutes of network service loss during the maintenance window.

History:
NTS will be performing network maintenance on Saturday, August 4th, from 12:01am to 6:00am.  Users will experience periodic disruptions to network services, on both wired and wireless connections, during the maintenance window.  Off-campus users can also expect disruptions when accessing on-campus resources.

History:
NTS will be performing network maintenance in Waters Hall, from 10:00pm to 12:00pm tonight - August 6, 2018.  Users may experience a brief outage in both wired and wireless connectivity during the maintenance window.

PaperCut Maintenance - 8/07

History:
ITAC will be performing maintenance on PaperCut on Tuesday, August 7th, from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM. Printing in computer labs may be unavailable during this time.

NTS will be performing network maintenance on Tuesday, August 7th starting at 10:00pm through 2:00am on Wednesday, August 8th.  During the maintenance window, we are anticipating brief periods of service outage, affecting access to and from the internet.

NTS will be performing network maintenance on the wireless infrastructure on Thursday 8/9 from 6:30 AM – 8:00 AM.  This maintenance will affect wireless users on campus as well as the K-State Athletics complex.  Housing wireless will NOT be affected.  During this time brief periods of connectivity loss are expected.

Code 42 Classic (CrashPlan) upgrade - 8/01

In the next few days device clients will update to the current versions.

History:

History:
EST will perform maintenance on the Mediasite database server from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20. During this maintenance period, Mediasite services may be temporarily disrupted.

Network Maintenance - Hale Library - 06/18

The maintenance has been completed.

History:
NTS will be performing maintenance tonight (6/18/18) from 6pm to 8pm in Hale Library, to continue the process of recovering services impacted by the fire.  During this maintenance user's may experience a brief disruption in network services.

ITS Systems Status 06/15/2018 4:00 pm


On Monday, June 18, at 5:00 am, work will be done in the Hale Data Center to restore utility power to the systems.   While we anticipate no impact or disruption of service, there exists the possibility that we will have to power down parts of the data center during the transition.   As a precaution, we will be shutting down all test and development services preemptively to reduce load and extend battery life in the UPSs.  If we do end up losing power,  we will have staff on hand to shut down production systems as gracefully as possible.

ITS System Status - 06/15/18

History:
Normal/commercial power was successfully turned on to the building’s exterior transformer and three (3) building electrical service switches on 6/14. Transfer to normal/commercial power from generator power for the IT equipment (located in the basement) has been scheduled for Monday.  Individuals are meeting today to discuss this further. 

K-State Confluence Wiki Maintenance - 06/14

The maintenance was completed.

History:
The K-State Confluence Wiki (including all instances of the wiki for other units on campus) will undergo maintenance on Thursday, June 14th beginning at 3pm. The outage is expected to last no more than 30 minutes.

The generator has been installed.  ITS continues to work with Belfor to provide shore power to the Hale data center. 

There are a few systems still in active evaluation or maintenance.
  • Unavailable systems - systems critically impacted by hardware failure
  • 85% Complete  – Most, but not all, data and system backups are fully operational. Awaiting arrival of replacement parts.  
  • 95% Complete – Services and systems online.
  • 100% Complete – network connections repaired, development/test systems
NOTE: Since nearly all systems are online now, stressed equipment may fail causing periodic outages.

There is no target date yet for permanent power restoration. Purchasing and installing replacement parts and equipment continues as needed.

There are a few systems still in active evaluation or maintenance. We will discontinue the 4pm Zoom sessions and continue posting updates to this page. 
  • Unavailable systems - Development and test environments for all services
  • 50% Complete – Repair of network connections. Awaiting arrival of replacement equipment to get reach full capacity. The data center is currently operating with a single connection to the campus network.
  • 75% Complete  – Most, but not all, data and system backups are fully operational. Awaiting arrival of replacement parts.  
  • 95% Complete – Services and systems online.
  • 100% Completed - Equipment components tested. Most equipment is operational. Awaiting arrival of replacement parts.

NOTE: Since nearly all systems are online now, stressed equipment may fail causing periodic outages.  

Electrical power to the data center is stabilized, but there is no target date yet for permanent power restoration. Purchasing and installing replacement parts and equipment continues as needed. Unavailable systems will be posted to the status page as we learn more.

The following are some answers to specific questions the IT Help Desk and others have been receiving.

Can my unit begin creating eIDs? Yes, the eID creation process is working.

What if my password period expired during the outage? Password changes were suspended during the ~ 11 day outage. The password change requirement is again operational and you should begin receiving notices about expiration dates. 

Are KSIS and DARS available?  Is ImageNow available? Is Mediasite available? Yes, KSIS, DARS, ImageNow and Mediasite are available. 

Is the Wildcat ID creation process operational? Yes, you can create a wildcat ID card.

Is Talisma available?  Yes, Talisma is available.  

Where is the IT Help Desk located? The IT Help Desk is located in the Union Cat's Pause Lounge 785-532-7722.

ITS continues to work to restore services and systems. Assessment and testing of system continues. A complete listing will be posted after the 8:30 am Zoom session. 

·         COMPLETED - Electrical power to the data center is now stabilized with dual generators and full battery backups. No target date yet for permanent power restoration
·         90% Complete - Systematically starting up equipment components to test the reliability of the equipment.
·         COMPLETED – Testing and reconfiguring network connections
·         50% Complete – Repair of network connections. Awaiting arrival of replacement equipment to get reach full capacity. The data center is currently operating with a single connection to the campus network.
·         Ongoing – Data and system backups are not yet fully operational.  The last successful backups were May 21. Although storage devices appear usable, the equipment used to update and restore backups is damaged. Awaiting arrival of replacement parts.  
·         Ongoing - Purchasing and installing replacement parts and equipment as needed.

Update 5/31/2018 2:00 pm


As a result of ongoing work in the data center, tentatively there is a possibility that the following buildings will lose phone service around 7 pm including: Bluemont, Chem/Biochem, College of Business, Dickens, Eisenhower, Engineering Complex, Hale, Holton, Justin, King, McCain, Nichols, Pat Roberts Hall, Seaton, Shellenberger, Throckmorton and Willard.  We do not anticipate an impact to campus.


HRIS is available for Campus.

ITS is currently working on:

·         Improving the stability of electrical power to the data center
·         Systematically starting up equipment components to test the reliability of the equipment
·         Testing, reconfiguring and/or repairing network connections
·         Purchasing and installing replacement parts and equipment as needed

We will begin the process for restoring systems; the functionality of those restored systems may be limited due to the reliance on data and services from other systems.
