Cardwell Hall Network Maintenance - 06/21

This maintenance was completed.

History:
NTS will be performing maintenance in Cardwell Hall tonight (6/21/18) from 10pm to midnight.  Users may experience a brief interruption in network services during the maintenance.

Firewall Mainteance - 06/21/18

The maintenance has been completed.

History:
Thursday evening, June 21st, between 10 PM and midnight, we will be updating software on several firewalls on campus.  For most locations, no service disruptions are anticipated as the maintenance is carried out.

Network Maintenance 6/20/18

The maintenance has been completed.

History:
NTS will be re-initiating redundant links from the core to the data center today (6/20/18) at 4pm.  This process is expected to cause a brief outage (under 2minutes) in access to the data center resources

Mediasite Maintenance - 06/20

The maintenance has been completed.

History:
EST will perform maintenance on the Mediasite database server from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20. During this maintenance period, Mediasite services may be temporarily disrupted.

Network Maintenance - Hale Library - 06/18

The maintenance has been completed.

History:
NTS will be performing maintenance tonight (6/18/18) from 6pm to 8pm in Hale Library, to continue the process of recovering services impacted by the fire.  During this maintenance user's may experience a brief disruption in network services.

ITS Systems Status 06/15/2018 4:00 pm


On Monday, June 18, at 5:00 am, work will be done in the Hale Data Center to restore utility power to the systems.   While we anticipate no impact or disruption of service, there exists the possibility that we will have to power down parts of the data center during the transition.   As a precaution, we will be shutting down all test and development services preemptively to reduce load and extend battery life in the UPSs.  If we do end up losing power,  we will have staff on hand to shut down production systems as gracefully as possible.

ITS System Status - 06/15/18

History:
Normal/commercial power was successfully turned on to the building’s exterior transformer and three (3) building electrical service switches on 6/14. Transfer to normal/commercial power from generator power for the IT equipment (located in the basement) has been scheduled for Monday.  Individuals are meeting today to discuss this further. 

K-State Confluence Wiki Maintenance - 06/14

The maintenance was completed.

History:
The K-State Confluence Wiki (including all instances of the wiki for other units on campus) will undergo maintenance on Thursday, June 14th beginning at 3pm. The outage is expected to last no more than 30 minutes.

IT System Status

The generator has been installed.  ITS continues to work with Belfor to provide shore power to the Hale data center. 

There are a few systems still in active evaluation or maintenance.
  • Unavailable systems - systems critically impacted by hardware failure
  • 85% Complete  – Most, but not all, data and system backups are fully operational. Awaiting arrival of replacement parts.  
  • 95% Complete – Services and systems online.
  • 100% Complete – network connections repaired, development/test systems
NOTE: Since nearly all systems are online now, stressed equipment may fail causing periodic outages.

There is no target date yet for permanent power restoration. Purchasing and installing replacement parts and equipment continues as needed.

Generator Maintenance 6/10/18

The maintenance has been completed.

History:
Generator issues have caused power disruptions to telephone services. Buildings impacted include: Bluemont, Chem/Biochem, College of Business, Dickens, Eisenhower, Engineering complex, Holton, Justin, King, McCain, Nichols, Pat Roberts Hall, Seaton, Shellenberger, Throckmortin and Willard. Service will be restored as soon as possible.

KDA and Olathe Firewall Maintenance - 06/07/18

The maintenance has been completed.

History:
Thursday, June 7th, between 5 and 5:30 PM, maintenance will be performed on the KDA firewalls.  Between 7:30 and 8:00 PM, maintenance will be performed on the Olathe firewalls. Neither maintenance operation is expected to cause a service disruption.

IT System Status


There are a few systems still in active evaluation or maintenance. We will discontinue the 4pm Zoom sessions and continue posting updates to this page. 
  • Unavailable systems - Development and test environments for all services
  • 50% Complete – Repair of network connections. Awaiting arrival of replacement equipment to get reach full capacity. The data center is currently operating with a single connection to the campus network.
  • 75% Complete  – Most, but not all, data and system backups are fully operational. Awaiting arrival of replacement parts.  
  • 95% Complete – Services and systems online.
  • 100% Completed - Equipment components tested. Most equipment is operational. Awaiting arrival of replacement parts.

NOTE: Since nearly all systems are online now, stressed equipment may fail causing periodic outages.

The following are some answers to specific questions the IT Help Desk and others have been receiving.

Can my unit begin creating eIDs? Yes, the eID creation process is working.

What if my password period expired during the outage? Password changes were suspended during the ~ 11 day outage. The password change requirement is again operational and you should begin receiving notices about expiration dates. 

Are KSIS and DARS available?  Is ImageNow available? Is Mediasite available? Yes, KSIS, DARS, ImageNow and Mediasite are available. 

Is the Wildcat ID creation process operational? Yes, you can create a wildcat ID card.

Is Talisma available?  Yes, Talisma is available.  

Where is the IT Help Desk located? The IT Help Desk is located in the Union Cat's Pause Lounge 785-532-7722.

Update 6/3/18 2:30pm

ITS continues to work to restore services and systems. Assessment and testing of system continues. A complete listing will be posted after the 8:30 am Zoom session. 

·         COMPLETED - Electrical power to the data center is now stabilized with dual generators and full battery backups. No target date yet for permanent power restoration
·         90% Complete - Systematically starting up equipment components to test the reliability of the equipment.
·         COMPLETED – Testing and reconfiguring network connections
·         50% Complete – Repair of network connections. Awaiting arrival of replacement equipment to get reach full capacity. The data center is currently operating with a single connection to the campus network.
·         Ongoing – Data and system backups are not yet fully operational.  The last successful backups were May 21. Although storage devices appear usable, the equipment used to update and restore backups is damaged. Awaiting arrival of replacement parts.  
·         Ongoing - Purchasing and installing replacement parts and equipment as needed.

Update 6/2/18 2pm
